Anoushka Gunawardana

Alumnus, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering (2020)

Alumnus Anoushka Gunawardana is an example of how strong communities, like at Ontario Tech, foster professional success. Anoushka joined Ontario Tech in 2014. During his education, he was apart of many clubs and initiatives including Peer Mentor Program, GEARS, Engineers Without Borders, and the Engineering Students' Society. Anoushka feels this involvement heavily supported him through out his studies, and shares, "To incoming engineering students, I would advise making the most of the resources and opportunities available. Engage actively in your studies and extracurricular activities, as they offer invaluable experiences that will serve you well in your career as well as provide you the opportunity to make friends that become family. I owe a great amount of success in university to my group of friends who all pushed each other to do and be better. The workload can be immense so remembering to rely on your peers for support is important. If you’re struggling, look around and find a buddy to struggle together. Stay curious, be open to learning, and don't hesitate to seek out mentors who can guide you along your professional journey."

During his studies, Anoushka also found supports and became a support in other areas, including as a Student Accessibility Support Member for Student Accessibility Services. His contribution through these supports and others such as GEARS and Peer Mentor Program show how activity in your community sets you up for success.

Now, Anoushka is a Sales and Project Engineer at Maguire Products Canada, specializing in system design and Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) for advanced auxiliary equipment in the plastics industry. He manages projects from start to finish, ensuring seamless integration and improved efficiency for clients. Anouskha owes both his technical and nontechnical skill development to his experience at Ontario Tech, "My engineering degree, combined with extracurricular involvement, provided me with the technical and soft skills needed for the industry."
