Stella Ohuabunwa

Alumna, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechatronics Engineering (2022)

Alumna Stella Ohuabunwa is using her combined mechanical, electrical, and programming knowledge obtained through the Bachelor of Mechatronics program at Ontario Tech in real world applications. Many students question whether specializing in a specific field will close doors—Stella's story proves how that is not the case.

Stella chose this program at Ontario Tech after speaking with alumni and reviewing course syllabi. When looking for a school, it was important to her to be in a school that focuses on preparing their students to excel in the real world. Looking over at the course syllabus and hearing from alumni, it was clear that Ontario Tech provides the resources needed to thrive post graduation.

Stella's experience in Ontario Tech was nothing short of her expectations, the professors were always ready to assist and ensure the theories behind different principles were well understood. She shares that most courses had hands on projects which enabled her to sharpen so many skills, including CAD modeling which directly supported her to receiving her current role in the industry. The projects and guidance from professors also allowed her to became a creative thinker and problem solver, which enables her to stand out in her career. Despite taking a more specialized program—which some people maybe hesitant to do—Stella graduated prepared for industry, and still is growing in her field today.

Stella shares to incoming engineering students, "I’d like you to know that you’ve made the right choice! From tutorials, to coursework, to office hours, the teaching structure here enables you to succeed and be the best version of yourself. There are a ton of career fairs, professional workshops, and even career counselors available to prime you for success, all you need to do is tap into these resources. I secured my first internship from a career fair at Ontario Tech and upgraded my LinkedIn profile during a free LinkedIn workshop. In summary, stay up to date on information, meet amazing people and have an amazing well balanced university experience!"
