What we do.

At Engineering Outreach, our mission is to enrich the educational journey of K-12 students across the Durham Region and beyond, instilling a deep-rooted passion for STEM. We strive to make STEM education both accessible and inclusive, especially for those from traditionally underrepresented communities. Here’s how we make an impact:

  • Accessibility and Inclusion: Ensuring every student has the opportunity to explore STEM, regardless of background.
  • Hands-On Learning: Delivering immersive STEM experiences through workshops and activities in schools and community hubs.
  • Digital Literacy and Skills Development: Equipping students with the necessary digital skills for the future.
  • Support for Educators: Empowering teachers and school leaders with resources and training to enhance STEM education delivery.

Guided by Indigenous STEM students, elders, knowledge keepers, and other community members, InSTEM's conference is grounded in land-based learning, demonstrating the intersections between Indigenous knowledge, STEM, and engineering design to Indigenous youth.
Emergency Fuel Delivery: Bridge Design Challenge

Emergency Fuel Delivery: Bridge Design Challenge

Friday, June 26, 2026

Grades 1 to 3

Join us for Emergency Fuel Delivery, a hands-on engineering challenge where students must respond to a simulated emergency scenario. After a storm blocks the main route to the city’s nuclear power plant, participants will design and build a bridge, then program a robot to cross it and deliver critical fuel supplies. Through this exciting challenge, students will explore structural design, coding, robotics, and the engineering design process while developing problem-solving skills and connecting with peers and engineering role models.
Science Quest

Science Quest

Friday, July 10th, 2026
Friday, July 17th, 2026

Grades 4 to 6

Young explorers will embark on an immersive adventure where each session transports them into a new world: deep underground caves, the vastness of outer space, a bubbling chemistry lab, and a remote deserted island. Through hands-on engineering challenges, experiments, and creative problem-solving, participants will think and act like real scientists and engineers as they complete each mission.
Black Youth STEM Club (Grades 1 to 3)

Black Youth STEM Club (Grades 1 to 3)

Thursdays from June 25 to July 9, 2026

Grades 1 to 3

During this exciting in-person program, little builders will use their hands, hearts, and minds to design, test, and build models capable of withstanding the elements. Participants will explore core architectural concepts, strong geometric shapes, and structural stability through a series of immersive, hands-on challenges.

Black Youth STEM Club (Grades 4 to 6)

Thursdays from June 25 to July 9, 2026

Grades 4 to 6

With World Cup fever in the air, we are thrilled to kick off our next in-person Black Youth workshhop series: The Science of Sports! During this multi-week session, young innovators will step into the shoes of sports scientists, data analysts, and engineers to discover how cutting-edge technology powers the world's greatest athletes. Participants will explore the fascinating worlds of wearable fitness tech, artificial intelligence, and biomechanical engineering through a series of immersive, hands-on projects.
Virtual Girls Coding Workshop Series (Grades 4 to 6)

Virtual Girls Coding Workshop Series (Grades 4 to 6)

Wednesday, July 8 to Friday, July 10, 2026

Grades 4 to 6

Where coding meets pure imagination, students are becoming the directors, authors, and world-builders of their own digital stories. By blending art with computer science, participants will use Scratch to weave interactive narratives and build games where they completely control the rules. Throughout this engaging session, creators will master fundamental programming concepts like event blocks, interactive keyboard inputs, and "if-then" logic to design responsive environments.
Virtual Girls Coding Workshop Series (Grades 9 to 12)

Virtual Girls Coding Workshop Series (Grades 9 to 12)

Fridays from July 6 to July 20, 2026

Grades 9 to 12

Get ready for the ultimate mix of tech design and creative storytelling! This session takes students on an exciting journey through digital art and programming as they graduate from visual Scratch blocks to text-based C++ logic. From scratch-built animated stories and classic arcade mechanics to fully customized text adventures, participants will get tons of hands-on coding practice.
Girls Coding Bootcamp
