  • Student Work Placement Program- The Student Work Placement program gives post-secondary students in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and business programs across Canada paid work experience related to their field of study.
  • National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP)- Young talent offer fresh perspectives that can fuel innovation. Our youth employment program provides financial assistance to companies so they can hire young talent to contribute to their innovation needs.
  • Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA)- To ensure that small businesses have access to the capital they need to see them through the current challenges, the Government of Canada has launched the new Canada Emergency Business Account, which has been implemented by eligible financial institutions in cooperation with Export Development Canada (EDC).
  • Co-operative Education Tax Credit- The Co-operative Education Tax Credit is a refundable tax credit. It is available to employers who hire students enrolled in a co-operative education program at an Ontario university or college.
  • Temporary Wage Subsidy for Employers-The 10% Temporary Wage Subsidy for Employers is a three-month measure that will allow eligible employers to reduce the number of payroll deductions required to be remitted to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

  • A student available for a 4, 8, 12, or 16 month term will have completed a minimum of 2 years of academic study, thereby obtaining a solid base of theory and technical skills.
  • Students could be assessed by employers for their ability, professionalism and aptitude as potential career employees.

  • Employers develop a collaborative relationship with the university and tap into training and research opportunities.
  • Students assist in the management of uninterrupted work flow during periods of vacation or high demandand are valuable contributors in completing special projects.
  • Students offset costs through tax credits of $3000 per work term for hiring a student.
• Employer Responsibilities

  The student and the employer both benefit by participation in the Co-op and Internship Program. The employer gains an energetic, enthusiastic and creative addition to staff as well as a potential graduate employee. The student invests a period of 4 to 16 months  in order to acquire significant experience and insight into the workplace environment. 

  Consequently, the employer is expected to provide a job that:

  • Provides work that offers program related experience and appropriate challenges
  • Ensures a supportive and constructive work environment
  • Offers appropriate supervision, coaching and mentorship and ensures on-going and clear communication
  • Provides orientation to the workplace and required safety training
  • Plans regular meetings with the student to discuss goals, project work and provide regular verbal feedback
  • Completes evaluations at the end of the work term and provides feedback to the student
  • Participates as an advisor in the writing of the Work Report and completes the employer’s component
