Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Department Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Automotive and Mechatronics Engineering.  We offer BEng and BEng and Management programs in Automotive and Mechatronics Engineering.  Our Automotive Engineering program is the only standalone automotive program that has been accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).  The Automotive Engineering program trains students to design all aspects of vehicles ranging from internal combustion engine powered vehicles to hybrid/electric vehicles.  Our Mechatronics Engineering program features an extensive hands-on project based learning approach that integrates knowledge from Mechanical, Electrical, Control, and Software Engineering.  All of our students have access to state-of-the-art laboratories for their education.
At the graduate level we have MASc/MEng programs in Automotive and Mechanical Engineering and a PhD program in Mechanical Engineering offered in conjunction with the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.  Our professors are world-class researchers.  In the area of automotive, our researchers are involved in projects in advanced propulsion systems, innovative design of autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, multidisciplinary vehicle systems design, and design of hybrid and electric vehicles with autonomous driving capabilities.  Our mechatronics faculty are involved in projects in autonomous and unmanned robotic systems, advanced sensing, Human-Robot Interaction (HRI), multidisciplinary mechatronics design, and machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Please explore our website to learn more about our programs and the department.
