ACE Engineering & Operations Support
Did you always know you wanted to do co-op/internship?
Yes, I only applied to universities that have co-op because I always knew I wanted to do co-op to gain experience while still in school.
Did you have any concerns or hesitations before you started?
At first, I was worried about being thrown into a new environment since I’ve been in school my whole life.
What were your expectations?
I was expecting to gain exposure to engineering work by putting what I learned in class to the test and to learn from my superiors while contributing to ACE.
How did your experience compare with your expectations?
I have really enjoyed my experience so far. It has been a great learning experience.
How would you say you enjoyed your experience?
I expected ACE to be super strict and that I’d be running around every day. In reality, it is very relaxed, and everyone is very helpful and friendly whenever I have questions.
In a few sentences, explain your position. Please provide details about your daily tasks, projects, and responsibilities.
My position is Engineering & Operations Support. I work under Paul Ambra, the ACE Project Manager. We are currently working on the AVIN Project, the autonomous electric bus. We recently planned the Future of Transportation and Mobility Series event at ACE, to bring all the partners together.
What was your work atmosphere like? (flexibility, formality, team-centric, supportive)
My work atmosphere is very friendly. We often meet people from other departments and other companies to progress with ACE’s AVIN Project, the plan for the 5th floor [of the ACE building], and the Future of Transportation and Mobility series event.
Did you feel that any training and/or support available to you was helpful or beneficial to you?
My organizational and multitasking skills were very helpful. As there are multiple things going on at once, and tasks have to reach completion.
What advice would you offer to students thinking about pursuing co-op or internship?
I would tell students that they should definitely do co-op. Gain as much experience as you can before graduating. It is also an opportunity to take a nice break from school.
