To gain true engineering experience and to help my future career unwind.
Can you describe your position in a few sentences?
Project Controls involve data gathering, data management, and analytical processes used to predict, understand and constructively influence the time and cost outcomes of a project. This is done through the communication of information in formats that assist effective management and decision-making.
Did you receive training to perform your engineering duties? Please explain.
Yes - Roughly a 3-week takeover process from the Intern leaving the position to return to school. The previous intern showed me all the steps and processes to complete tasks for my role.
What was your work atmosphere like?
Hours are flexible, but must still work full-time schedules. Business casual environment as well as a very professional standard. The team I work with is extremely helpful and encourages me to ask questions at any time.
What new skills were you able to learn/develop during your co-op/internship?
MS Excel knowledge, how to behave and communicate in meetings, how to email properly, how to multitask, meet deadlines, organize, and problem-solving.
How did your experience compare with your expectations?
Exceeded expectations as you don’t know what you are getting into until you do it.
What was your proudest moment?
Uploading my first schedule update to all project management employees on my own.
