Did you always know you wanted to do a co-op/ internship?

Yes.

Did you have any concerns or hesitations before you started?

Living away from home for the first time.

What were your expectations?

I wanted to learn and see how what I’m learning in undergrad, can be applied to the industry.

How did your experience compare with your expectations?

I was presented with many opportunities to learn and grow. I also have/had the pleasure of working with great mentors.

Did you enjoy your experience?

Yes.

What were your tasks and responsibilities?

My co-op has rotations so the work you do, depends on the division you are in. Some of the things I have done are: written a paper for a conference, contributed to an international project and updated the database for the projects, helped develop a tool to help analyze licensee documents, worked on procedure for compliance verification, and participated in inspections at nuclear power plants.

What was the work atmosphere like?

It depends on the division your are in. Overall, people are friendly, supportive, and it is a positive environment.

Did you receive any additional training and/or opportunities?

Yes.

What advice would you offer to students that want to pursue a co-op/internship?

Look for a co-op that is the right fit for you. If you are unsure of exactly what you want, I recommend taking a co-op that has rotations.
