What motivated you to apply for Co-op/Internship
I was motivated to apply for an internship in order to gain experience in the workplace and apply my theoretical knowledge to practical use.
Can you describe your position in a few sentences?
I work in the Inspection and Reactor Innovation Department. For my position, I help facilitate modifications of the inspection tools used.
Did you receive training to perform your engineering duties? Please Explain.
Yes. Lots of training. Training is really important, especially at a nuclear plant.
What was your work atmosphere like? (flexibility, formality, team-centric, supportive)
My work atmosphere is very flexible and team-centric. The majority of the time I'm working with others and participating in meetings to ensure everyone is up to date on projects.
What new skills were you able to learn/develop during your Co-op/Internship?
I’ve definitely learned some new skills related to Microsoft Office and other software. I’ve developed my overall skills in public speaking, critical thinking, logical thinking and collaboration.
How did your experience compare with your expectations?
I wasn’t expecting to do as much engineering work as I am in the projects section of IRI. However, I have made good connections with the engineers here and they allow me to help out on their projects in the lab when I have time.
What was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment was working on a Multisim engineering project. I was able to utilize my knowledge from school for this.
What advice would you offer to current students thinking about pursuing Co-op/Internship?
My advice would be to definitely do an internship. You gain a lot of experience doing so and you are able to make connections in the field you are looking to pursue.
