Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

  • FULL ~ Virtual - Learning to Code: Beginner Python - July 4-7

    Campers will be introduced to the basics of Python programming using replit. From operators to conditional statements, to loops, campers will learn to code through a series of exciting coding challenges that put their knowledge to the test. This introductory camp will prepare campers for any future coding classes or coding languages they want to learn. No coding experience is required!

    This program for girls will focus on a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) cumulative, take-home project throughout the week. With an emphasis on the Engineering Design Process, participants will learn a new topic every day along with how it relates to their project and the world around them. Participants will learn from enthusiastic female engineering students and boost their problem-solving skills through fun, hands-on, discovery-based activities. At the end of the week, participants will apply all the knowledge they learned and put their projects to the test in a head-to-head competition with their peers!

  • FULL ~ In-Person - Engineering Our World through SPORT - July 31-August 4

    This camp is for the true sports loving engineer! Each day will be split between hands-on STEM (science, tech, engineering and math) activities, and getting out and active, through SPORT! 

    Campers will participate in a variety of organized team and individual active games. Campers will receive instruction of fundamental skills in a variety of sports at the Campus Fieldhouse and Vaso's Field, which may include: Baseball, Soccer, Volleyball, Field Hockey, Flag Football, Dodgeball, Badminton and lots of other fun activities. Additionally, campers will learn about different fields of engineering, with camp projects focused on building a better society!

    The sports activity and STEM themes will change daily. All necessary sports equipment will be provided.

    Campers who have taken a previous introductory Python course will enjoy this project-based camp. This camp was developed to allow campers to expand on their base knowledge in Python programming using replit. As campers dive deeper into various Python types, functions, and libraries, they will be tasked with fun design projects that require them to express their creativity through coding to form a solution. Throughout the camp, campers will gain a deeper perspective on the impact of computer scientists and software engineers on society.

  • Virtual - Future of Technology - August 8-11

    Campers will explore different technologies that real engineers use to solve problems within our society. Campers will discover present technologies and explore how they will evolve in the years to come. By the end of the camp, campers will be able to think about and apply these technologies in their daily lives. No coding experience is required!

    Campers will dive into robotics through the ultimate robotics design competition! Bring your imagination and creativity, we will give you the knowledge and technology to make the ultimate robot. Campers will design, build, and test their robots’ skills to overcome a series of escalating challenges. Can your robot navigate a maze, avoid obstacles, and successfully battle? Using LEGO® Mindstorms EV3, campers will work in groups to design the best robot to win. In this design challenge, campers will work through the entire Engineering Design Process, from ideas, to programming, to the final design. On the last day, there will be a competition to see which team comes out on top. Good luck and may the best robot win!

    Participants will explore the mechanics, dynamics, and material sciences behind modern inventions, and learn how to transform a concept into a product through the Engineering Design Process. Participants will have opportunities to reinvent successful inventions and apply mechanical solutions to make their engineered improvements.

  • Virtual - Teaching Computers to Learn - July 4-7

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the fastest growing areas of software engineering, appearing in almost every industry. Participants will learn about the newest developments within AI and how these systems use different techniques to help humans efficiently solve problems. Participants will be tasked with constructing a system of their own that they will program and train. Participants will explore the societal implications of AI, such as the ethical considerations of using biased data.

  • In-Person - The Vision of Energy - July 17-21

    The evolution of technology has brought with it an increased demand for energy. At the same time, our understanding of how we produce energy, and the consequences of different approaches has also increased. As a result, there is a rapidly growing demand for cleaner energy production methods, like nuclear energy!

    Participants of this camp will discover different ways of creating energy and how nuclear energy is a key technology for carbon-free energy generation. Participants will further explore what it means to be sustainable in an ever-changing and growing world. They will be equipped with the knowledge to design solutions as they explore the natural world. Participants will also learn to look at the environment around them through the lens of STEM (Science,  Technology, Engineering, and Math) and the Engineering Design Process.

    Python is one of the most popular programming languages in the world, used by scientists, engineers, hobbyists, and everyone in between! Participants will be introduced to the basic concepts of the Python programming language by completing fun coding challenges! This basic knowledge will prepare them for any future coding classes or coding languages they want to learn. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to meet Ontario Tech University software engineering students and engineering industry professionals. No coding experience is required!

  • In-Person - Our Autonomous World - July 31-August 4

    Our world is constantly evolving, like our technology! We have reached the point where our technology can interact with our world without the support of a human! Participants will learn how this automation is done in the context of industry and beyond. Some of the most innovative companies in the world (i.e., Google, Tesla, GM) are actively employing this technology in their business models. Already we are starting to see their impact on transportation, industry, and ethics. Participants will use the Engineering Design Process and robotic technologies to learn more about the future of automation and its many applications.

  • In-Person - Design of User Interfaces - August 8-11

    Whenever we use technology, we must interact with the complex work done by various engineers. It is not as challenging as it sounds because of the user interfaces that translate the instructions we provide to the system into a language it can understand. In this program, participants will explore current user interface experiences and examine the relationship between how humans process information, and how humans interact with machines, along with the advantages and challenges that come with this work.

  • Virtual - Magic of Mathematics - August 8-11

    Math is not just something we do in class; it is one of the methods we can use to solve problems and make our lives easier. Participants will learn the foundational concepts of calculus and the value of this super-powerful tool for tackling tough challenges. Our fun, hands-on activities will help participants develop an understanding of how calculus and other mathematical concepts can solve real problems they face every day and relate to real world engineering and society.

  • FULL ~ In-Person - Design, Build, Battle Robotics - August 14-18

    Why learn robotics on our own when we can develop our skills together and then test them against other teams? Participants will utilize the Engineering Design Process and computational problem-solving to build and program robots using VEX EDR Robotics. Participants will work in teams to design their robot, which will include motors, sensors, and hardware components that are controlled with code, without the need for external influence. At the end of the week, all the robots will battle until there is one robot standing!

  • In-Person - Quantum Discovery - August 21-25

    So what is Quantum really? In this program, participants will dive deep into the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and explore ideas that have shaped some of our most successful theories. From quantum entanglement to quantum computing, participants will explore quantum mechanics through a theoretical and experimental approach, understanding the great promise and current threats of the development of quantum technologies.
