Ways You Can Work with Us

Position Type Eligibility & Details Rate of Pay
High School Instructor Current high school students. Fall-Winter: part-time only. Deliver programming to K-8 students only. $17.20/hr + 4% vacation pay
New/Junior Program Instructor Current undergraduate students who have not worked with us before. Part-time or some full-time positions $21.14/hr + 4% vacation pay
Senior Program Instructor Current or recent undergraduate students who have previously worked with Engineering Outreach. Part-time or some full-time positions. $22.26/hr + 4% vacation pay
Co-op Program Instructor Current undergraduate students completing a recognized 4-, 8-, 12-, or 16-month co-op work term. Paid at New or Senior rate based on previous experience with Outreach. Full-time. $21.14/hr or $22.26/hr + 4% vacation pay, depending on previous Outreach experience.

Hiring Timelines

  • Summer Hiring has now concluded. Applications will open in March or April. Please check back in then.
  • Fall/Winter Hiring: Applications for the Fall and Winter terms are currently open until August 8 at 11:59 pm, or until suitable candidates are found.
  • Note: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and interviews are scheduled as applications are received. Therefore, it is highly recommended to submit your application as early as possible to increase your chances of being considered for an interview.

  • Overview of Program Instructor Job Description

    Ontario Tech University Engineering Outreach Program Instructors support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programming for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. We provide free and low-cost STEM workshops, camps, and events across Durham, York, Northumberland, and Toronto, including in-school and community programs, as well as on-campus programming.

    Responsibilities

    • Deliver engaging, hands-on STEM workshops and camps in person to youth K-12.
    • Prepare lesson plans, activities, and educational content for outreach programs.
    • Develop innovative STEM-based curriculum through testing and experimentation.
    • Support social media engagement through content creation on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
    • Assist with surveys, program analysis, and reports to enhance future programming.
    • Communicate consistently and effectively with Engineering Outreach Coordinators.
    • Represent Ontario Tech University Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science positively.
    • Travel within the Durham Region for in-person workshops and community events.
