Volunteer with Engineering Outreach

Our high school co-op placements provide students with hands-on experience in STEM education while earning credits through their school’s co-op program.

• Runs Monday to Friday for approximately 3 hours per day
• Hybrid schedule (mix of in-person and online work)

The General Volunteer Program is perfect for high school students and undergraduate students who want to support STEM outreach. Students will have the opportunity to participate in multiple programs that will allow them to build critical skills that are needed for the workforce of tomorrow.

Key Details:

• Open to high school and undergraduate students
• Volunteers must complete the training that is assigned to them once they sign up for a program 
• The programs to volunteer at will become available to sign up for 1.5 months in advance. For example,  if you are looking to volunteer in February 2027, the programs will be released by December 15, 2026
• Training is valid for up to one year

Steps to Sign Up for Volunteering: 

Step 1) Visit the Calendly landing page to select a program you would like to volunteer for. It can be found below, titled “Volunteer Sign-up Portal”.

Step 2) Complete the form and all of the questions asked.

Step 3) Please register for the Google Classroom. The link to join the Google Classroom can be found in the confirmation email that you will receive once you sign up for a volunteer program.

Step 4) Sign in to Google Classroom to complete your assigned training

Step 5) You are all set!

What is Google Classroom used for? 

You will complete all of your training here. This platform will also be used to: 

• Submit your volunteer hours 
• Submit your vulnerable sector check form (only for those 18 years of age or older) 
• Ask any questions 

How do I know what training I must complete? 

This will be provided in the confirmation email you receive once you sign up to volunteer for a program on Calendly. It is also provided in each of the program descriptions on Calendly.

How do you let someone know you can no longer attend the volunteer event? 

Please use the Calendly email confirmation. On the email confirmation, it will give you an option to cancel/reschedule. An email notification will not be accepted, and if it is not done through Calendly, you will be noted as a no-show and will be restricted to volunteer/work with engineering outreach for a year. You must give at least a 10-day notice that you can no longer attend a volunteer program that you signed up for.

How do I submit my volunteer hours?

You submit these hours on Google Classroom. Volunteer hours MUST be submitted through Google Classroom and will not be accepted through email. They must follow the formatting guidelines, which are provided on Google Classroom.

Where do I submit my Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)?

You submit this on Google Classroom. VSC MUST be submitted through Google Classroom and will not be accepted through email. It must follow the formatting guidelines, which are provided on Google Classroom.

I completed T3 and general training for a program in October of 2026, but now I want to volunteer for a program in December 2026, and it is categorized as T1. Do I still need to complete different training? 

Each training module is unique and is valid for one year from the date you have completed it. Since you completed T3 and general training, you still must complete the T1 training module. You will NOT have to complete the general training module, though.

I volunteered with you in June 2026 and completed volunteer training then. Do I need to complete training with you again since it hasn’t been a year?

Since the volunteer program has been revised, anyone who wants to volunteer with Engineering Outreach from September 2026 onwards must complete the new training process. If you trained with us before September 2026, it is invalid. 

I volunteered with you back in October 2024 and completed volunteer training then. Do I need to complete training with you again?

Yes. Training is only valid for one year. 

I volunteered with you in October 2026, but I didn’t submit my hours until November 15, 2026. Can you please sign them?

Since the hours were not filled by the end of October 2026, they are no longer a priority. Our policy states that you MUST submit your hours via Google Classroom by the last day of the month that you volunteered.

You will receive your hours based on the availability of our team at Engineering Outreach, but they will no longer be a priority. 

I signed up for a program to volunteer at, but when I showed up to the program, they told me I could not volunteer at the program because I did not complete my training. No one emailed me to remind me, and I did not even see the training anywhere. 

Reading all documents to ensure you know what you are responsible for is your responsibility. It is outlined in the Calendly event descriptions, the confirmation email, and on the website how to join training. It is your responsibility to complete the training by the deadlines provided, or else you cannot volunteer with us. 

I signed up for a program, but when do I need to finish my training by? 

Your training is due by the 20th of the month prior to when you are volunteering. For example, if you signed up to volunteer on November 14, 2026, you must have your training completed by October 20, 2026.
